Glossybox January 2014

25 January 2014

The first Glossybox of 2014 has had a bit of a facelift. The box is now actually glossy and the ribbon now carries the Glossybox brand name. Personally I preferred it how it was before and I'm mightily disappointed that I won't be able to re-use the ribbon for other things.

Unfortunately my disappointment doesn't end there. This month's theme was Back to Basics, claiming to promote products that are designed to get you back on the road to healthy, post-party season skin...which is par for the course at this time of year. I think Glossybox have taken the Back to Basics theme a bit too literally and that's exactly how I would describe this box. Basic.

Let's take a closer look at what's inside...

Yu-Be Moisturising Skin Cream {2 x sample sizes}
This is Japan's number one selling vitamin-enriched 'cult' skincare cream, perfect for dry areas like lips, elbows, knees and cuticles, it's non-greasy blend of antioxidants and camphor to calm and protect skin, leaving it soothed, hydrated and beautifully soft. The samples are so tiny that I thought I'd get the best use by using on my raggy cuticles. It does the trick although I'm not keen on the camphor scent.
£13.50 for 33g

Balance Me Super Toning Body Wash {sample size}
This body wash has a blend of juniper, bergamot, geranium and lavender essential oils that can be used either as a shower gel or as a bath soak by adding a cap full under running water. It smells lovely and reminds me of the spa, it foams up nicely but I would never in a million years spend £10 on a body wash!
Full size price £10.25 for250ml

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Floral Slanted Tweezer {full size}
These were actually hidden under the packaging so were a bit of a nice surprise when I found them. They look very pretty, but are exactly the same shape and size as my existing tweezers so I'm not mega excited about them.
Price £8.00
Anatomicals Puffy The Eye Bag Slayer Wake-Up Under Eye Patches {sample size}
What a fabulous name for a product! I love Anatomicals... the branding, the packaging and the products are always great. These under eye patches claim to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and revitalise the delicate skin around your eyes. I had a go with them last night was was really impressed. My under eyes felt cool and refreshed and I felt like I was really pampering myself. They're not something I would normally buy but I'll definitely pick some  more up next time I'm in Boots.
Full size price £6.00 for 3 pack

Vaseline Essential Moisture Lotion {sample size}
I don't even know what to say about this product. It's just your bog standard budget body lotion so not something I would ever expect to see in a Glossybox. Personally I prefer using a richer body butter for moisturising my skin. That aside, it has a nice fragrance and sinks into the skin without too much rubbing in.
Full size price £4.99 for 400ml

The last two Glossyboxes have been such a huge disappointment. The general consensus on Instagram was the same with most people this month, with lots saying they're cancelling their subscription. Four of the five products were sample sizes and no make up products at all is just unforgivable in my eyes. I've got enough glossydots to have next months box free but after that I'm cancelling my subscription.

I've already subscribed to a new beauty box... Watch this space to see which one I've gone for!

  1. Hiya mydarlingsandme, I am so happy you've made this post its amazing to read especially as everything you have said is everything I felt the split second that I had opened my January Glossbox - even if I have not tested the products as there was no rush of excitement to. It was so horrible after what I received at Christmas which was such a delight >
    Great post I love the honesty, cosmocube x
