DIY Advent Calendar Ideas

15 November 2012

Last night I finished making my Christmas cards.  I actually had fun sticking, punching, stamping  and folding! Remember I'm not the craftiest person around so don't expect a masterpiece but I'm really happy with how they look {I'll reveal them in a post very soon.}

Now I need to make a start on my next Christmas project which is to make our advent calendar. I'd better get my skates on as it's only just over two weeks until 1st December. Once again, Pinterest has given me the inspiration for making it. I really wanted something that we can use year after year... as long as it doesn't fall apart! I wanted something a bit different from the usual chocolate ones. Yes ours will definitely have some chocolate in but I'm going to put other things in too. Like little notes for Christmas activities we can do together in the countdown to the big day.

Anyway I've got a good idea of what I want to make. I've spent ages on Pinterest looking for inspiration so I thought I'd share my favourite ideas for DIY advent calendars in case you fancy making one yourself.

I think there's plenty of inspiration here so why not have a go. Some of them look incredibly simple and easy so even the most craft-shy person could have a go.

Right I'd better make a start right now!

Have you ever made your own advent calendar? Do you put chocolates in it or activities?

  1. I finished making an advent calendar just in time last year: http://thehandmademum.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/ready-in-nick-of-time-for-advent.html I had hand stitched it all on and off throughout a few months, it's a bit wonky in places but that's what handmade is all about! I filled it with chocolates last year but with Alex a bit older this year I may add a few Christmassy activities or something as I like the idea of that. Lovely calendars you have pinned.

    1. Thank you. Your advent calendar looks fab and it doesn't look wonky to me! I'm doing chocolates and a few activities as I think my kids, especially Oliver who's nearly 4, will love to do a few Christmas things with me. xx

  2. I love these ideas - wish I had the patience to try a few of the more elaborate ones! I might have a go at the matchbox ones, though.

    I made an advent calendar a few years ago (http://www.fabmums.com/2009/11/23/christmas-crafts-advent-calendar-part-2/), which we have used every year since, but this year I feel inspired to make something new:)
