Snow in April!

4 April 2012

This is the sight that greeted me when I opened my curtains this morning!!

We live in the Pennine hills in West Yorkshire and apparently the snow was the heaviest Yorkshire had experienced in April for more than 30 years.

I got such a shock as I was in denial that we could have snow in April!  This time last week it was 'cracking the flags' (a Yorkshire saying meaning it's so hot that the heat will crack the paving flags!) I vaguely remember someone saying that snow was forecast for this week but I brushed it off saying "It won't snow here". I never thought I'd be writing a post about snow at this time of year!

Luckily I live quite close to work so it was only a 20 minute walk {through blizzard like conditions!} I arrived at work looking like a snowman with my mascara dripping down my face and absolutely freezing thighs!

Hubby picked me up from work {I work mornings} as the roads had been cleared by then. He's on the late shift this week so when we arrived home, he shot off to work. So after lunch I got the darlings bundled up in  coats, hats, scarf's, gloves and wellies to play in the garden. Naturally they loved it and had a fantastic time... that is until Oliver fell over and got completely soaked! So he was freezing then and I made them go indoors {evil mummy!}

By then it was Lydia's nap time so I decided to make some Easter buns with Oliver. They are the easiest thing ever to make... no baking required. Just melt some chocolate {I do it in the microwave}, add cornflakes, stir well to combine it all, divide into bun cases, top with some Cadbury's Mini Eggs and put in the fridge to set. Oliver had such fun helping to break up the chocolate, stirring in the cornflakes, spooning it into bun cases and putting the eggs on top... and of course eating loads of it in the process!

And the good news is that there is no more snow forecast and it should all be gone by the morning!
